FAQ
Why is the workshop so much cheaper this year?
Over the 7 seasons that I have run this workshop, students have changed, and the workshop needed to change with them. For 2025, I’ve moved to a less expensive course platform, trimmed the modules to focus on key brainstorming, plot and revision exercises while still giving insight into what makes a college essay “great” and what your admissions officers really are looking for. Students who complete the workshop tend to write better, more compelling essays in a shorter amount of time.
This restructuring of the workshop will give me more time into my schedule to work 1:1 on students who need something more or different than they can get in a group workshop. In the end, I believe all expats, TCKs and students who’ve experienced international transitions during their high school years deserve essay writing support that helps them address that part of their experience, and I want to make the workshop portion more financially accessible to all of them.
Is this workshop right for my student?
If you believe your student will struggle with an asynchronous approach to essay brainstorming, please send me an email describing their writing background and the proposed list of schools they will apply to. I’ll help you assess whether this workshop is the best model for them.
Should I enroll my student in your private essay coaching sessions?
Not every student needs additional coaching beyond the workshop. Students who work independently and are confident in their writing skills will likely find the workshop alone sufficient to help them get to a first draft.
Private sessions are:
- For students who are applying to selective universities or who have a large number of additional supplemental essays and need help organizing that process.
- OR for students who struggle with writers’ block, writing perfectionism or writing insecurities. In these sessions, I will guide you through brainstorm via the interview and Card-Sort model, taking you from a blank screen to a completed first draft.

When are you available for private coaching sessions?
Essay coaching sessions are available until August 31, Monday – Friday ONLY. It’s very unlikely I’ll be able to accept hourly clients for the class of 2026 after August 31 this year, but may have room after November 1 for regular decision applications.
Students who complete the workshop on or before August 1, 2025 will receive a discount code for $50 off per session for up to 4 weekday essay coaching sessions.

What if my student is only applying to schools outside the US?
If they are applying to an American style university outside the US or using the Common Application to apply to college, this workshop is the way to go. If they are applying to UK, European, Australian or other schools abroad, they may not need a personal narrative essay but are more likely to need a personal statement. Personal statements explain how a student is academically and professionally prepared to take on their university coursework, and also how the student sees the chosen degree as part of their career progression. If your student will write ONLY a personal statement, I highly recommend this resource to help them prepare it. If they want someone to review that statement before they submit it, you can select the “Second Draft Review” item below.
