Signing up for a 2 year comprehensive college planning and match package can be a little intimidating. What are you really going to get in that time?
First, beginning with the initial session, Nomad is focused on getting to know the student and working with them to achieve their goals. We interview both parents and student, but we also offer a series of questionnaires and tests that provide psycho-social insight into the student. We conduct a career and interest inventory, perform an academic success assessment and compile extensive files and notes on each student.
We then use those results to help the student better understand their self, but also to begin generating the college list. We’ll identify those features that will help the student be most successful in their academic career, and then the schools that have those features. We’ll walk the student through virtual tours of the campuses, connect them with the appropriate recruiting offices and student ambassadors, give them guidance for what to look for on in-person tours and then help them evaluate the differences between the schools they’ve explored.
When we’ve finalized the list, we’ll begin the process of the application itself. The essay process is made easier by our history of working together, but also because the extensive amount of information we’ve collected points the student to topics for their essays and things to highlight in their supplemental questions. The essay writing time becomes fun rather than burdensome.
Our college planning software will help you keep up with the many different deadlines you’ll face. Schools often have deadlines for specific programs, residence halls, honors programs, and scholarships separate from their overall deadlines, we will work together to make sure you don’t miss those opportunities.
Once the applications are submitted, Nomad will help you meet financial aid deadlines and understand the reporting process for your Prior-Prior Year Income. We’ll help you compose addendums and appeals based on income or other financial changes. We’ll also give you pointers on how an international income might affect your student’s financial aid offer. We’ll help you read your offer letters, and understand the different types of aid offered, especially when it’s deliberately opaque.
We’ll talk with you about the overnight visits and last-minute accepted students tours you go on. We’ll give you some questions to ask the school that might help you decide whether it’s the match for you.
Finally, once you’ve decided on a school, we’ll talk with you as you make decisions about whether to live in on-campus housing, or do the regular or international orientation program.
In other words, the Comprehensive Package is everything. It’s a mentorship from the beginning to the end of the college admissions timeline.
It’s also helpful for students who won’t be able to make an on-the-ground college tour trip in their Junior year. If you plan to tour colleges before Junior Year, work with Nomad in the Sophomore year to identify possible schools to visit.
In Nomad’s Common App essay-only package, the first session is a brainstorming meeting. We’ll use a variety of interview and creative activities to narrow in on a few topics that would most effectively present the real you to the college admissions team. We’ll also talk about some writing strategies and how to overcome writer’s block. Before the next session, you’ll write a rough draft of approximately 800-1000 words. In our next meeting, we’ll go over the strengths of the draft, and those parts that really stand out. We’ll break up the draft into parts that will make it into the final essay, and the parts that might be better suited for a supplemental question. You’ll work on the revisions and share your drafts with friends or family to get their feedback before we come together again for a final session that really hones in on the effectiveness of each sentence and example you’ve chosen.
Writing and rewriting can be a grueling process, so we recommend starting your essay package during the summer before your senior year. We do, however, offer a rush essay package.
We also offer packages over four sessions for applications that require multiple essays or essays that are for schools that don’t use the Common App
Please contact us for details on any of our essay options.
A consulting package might come with 3 or 15 sessions, whatever fits your timeline and needs.
We are flexible with how we manage our sessions. If the internet is patchy on your end, we can work without video, but most of our students prefer the live interaction.
